Washington was always there to help others
A Madison County woman known for coming to the aid of family and friends was doing just that Sunday morning. Victoria "Vickey" Washington, 54, was headed to West Palm Beach, Fla., to help take care of her brother, who was ill, and his wife, who was going through surgery, family members said yesterday.
Originally from Breckenridge County, Washington served eight years in the Army and 12 years in the Navy, Mason said.
While she was in the Navy, she met and married J.T. Washington. Both retired from the Navy in 1995 after serving in Guam and moved to Kentucky, living first in Owensboro and then in Richmond, Mason said.

My wife and I had the privilege of serving with Vicki in the Navy while in Guam in the late '80s. One of the things we remember most about Vicki is her smile and calming influence. Perhaps most significant was the way in which she provided incredible balance to those around her. We have not seen her in many years, but she remains a vivid and pleasant memory from our Naval service. Our Navy family is a strong one, and it hurt our hearts to hear she had been taken from us. But we thank God for the way in which she touched our lives!
