Letter to the Editor: 'The Real Hitler Comparisons’

I thoroughly enjoyed your story on the “Is Obama Another Hitler?” forum that was held in Vermillion on Sept. 23 (Press & Dakotan, Sept. 24).

The real Hitler comparisons begin and end with George W. Bush, his vice president, Reich Marshal Richard Cheney, and earlier in the last century, Mr. Bush’s grandfather.

If you recall, anyone opposed to the Bush administration policies was automatically branded unpatriotic. Sound familiar?

Mr. Bush’s grandfather, Prescott Bush, was complicit in a scheme that helped finance Nazi Germany long after the beginning of World War II through Brown Brothers Harriman, a firm that employed Prescott Bush.

They were finally shut down under the terms of the Trading With The Enemy Act in 1942 when the Alien Property Custodian seized the assets of BBH stating, “that since 1939, these (steel and mining) properties have been in possession of and have been operated by the German government and have undoubtedly been of considerable assistance to that country’s war effort.”

Mr. Bush lied in order to start the Iraq war. If anything, he should be tried for war crimes just like his Nazi counterparts. You can also place the blame for our country’s highly degraded environmental conditions on Mr. Bush’s presidency.

President Obama is trying his best to rectify this gigantic mess and all you can do is offer criticism.

To all the Obama detractors making all your ridiculous statements: It’s too bad that they are steeped in such narrow vision, stupidity and baseless ideological rhetoric.
